Chapter Philanthropy & Service
In addition to national partners, collegiate chapters also support local causes through philanthropic fundraising and hands-on service on their campuses and in their local communities.
The Beta Iota Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau participates in various local community service projects. Our main local service projects include Habitat for Humanity and Adopt-A-Highway.
Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity allows sisters to participate in cleaning the Lancaster Habitat Resale Store. Once a year sisters donate hours to the sweeping, dusting and reorganizing to the nonprofit store. The Beta Iota chapter works closely with the Resale store to make sure that they are properly staffed with volunteers all throughout the year. Over the last few years we have been able to help with building on Habitat sites, and it has been an amazing opportunity for us to make an even bigger difference.

The sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau have adopted a highway in the Millersville area. Once a semester the sisters of AST travel to the highway to pick up trash and litter. Through Millersville’s Panhellenic Council Alpha Sigma Tau participates in a Panhellenic Adopt-A-Highway once a semester as well. During this time period members of all four Panhellenic sororities on campus come together to clean their shared highway.

Throughout different parts of the semester sisters participate in various other forms of community service. During the holiday season sisters partake in collect presents for underprivileged students, mailing holiday spirit filled cards to those in hospitals, and donate money to different organizations devoted to helping others. Sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau often support other Greek organizations philanthropies as well, through monetary donations and participating in special events coordinated by other chapters.
