Though we take our academics, philanthropy, and community building seriously, we understand that it is important to have a little fun as well!
The sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau have been active participants in Millersville’s Greek Week, hosted by the All Greek Council every spring. During this week long event, our chapter is paired with other Greek organizations on campus to form a team. Together the teams are active in events such as eating contest, chariot races, talent competitions, and fundraising events throughout the week. During Greek Week of 2016, the Greek community was able to raise over one thousand dollars over the course of six days for the ASPCA and Karlie’s Angels foundation to combat domestic abuse. Greek Week is an amazing opportunity for the Greek community of Millersville to come together as one, through a little friendly competition, and raise money for great charities.
Sisters always take advantage of other opportunities to raise money for different organizations on campus through fun events. Recently several sisters took part in Lambda Chi Alpha’s Pumpkin Bash, where sisters engaged in pumpkin themed games such as a pumpkin toss, a pumpkin roll, a pumpkin smash, and a tug-of-war over the smashed pumpkins. Though some sisters may have left the event covered in pumpkin mush, they raised hundreds of dollars for Feeding America.
Twice a year Alpha Sigma Tau partners with a fraternity to host both organizations alumni and alumnae. During homecoming the partner organizations prepare a picnic to allow their alums to come back to their Alma Mater, meet new members of the organizations and to see how their family lines have grown! During the spring semester, Alpha Sigma Tau host an alumnae gathering for their sisters as well. This give an opportunity members to reconnect with all of their sisters, both past and present.
For the past two years, Alpha Sigma Tau has participated in community organizations such as Relay for Life and Mini-Thon. During Relay for Life sisters make the pledge to walk for a cure, taking laps around a track for twelve hours straight while raising money for the American Cancer Society. Mini-Thon is an opportunity for sisters to come together to dance nonstop for twelve hours to the Four-Diamonds to fight childhood cancer.
Throughout the semester activities are planned for sisters to meet with each other in social settings. Over the last two semesters sisters have participated in ropes course activities, game nights, dinner dates, sister picnics and more! When asked what their favorite social aspects of Alpha Sigma Tau are sisters Madi and Libby replied, “Always having people ready for a Sheetz run and movie night in. Sisters are the best for these kinds of nights.”
